
The Florida Professionals in Infection Control (FPIC) Internship Program offers an opportunity for motivated students from Florida Colleges or Universities who are passionate about infection prevention and control, epidemiology, and research to gain important "real world" experience and apply their skills to projects impacting the field of infection prevention and control. This internship provides the opportunity for students to learn from subject matter experts in the field. Interested applicants can choose from two different options. Option one provides the opportunity to complete an Online Internship working with FPIC Administrative Staff on projects that support our mission to develop, promote, and provide infection control educational and professional development opportunities, provide and facilitate infection control networking and collaboration opportunities, and serve as a resource and advocate for infection control issues. Option two is for those students interested in completing an Onsite Internship at the local facility, agency or organization level shadowing a member of the society. All interns will be provided with specific projects and timelines for deliverables as mutually agreed to the by intern, and the assigned preceptor.
FPIC encourages all Universities and Colleges in Florida offering degree programs related to Infection Prevention, to align their Internship Programs with the Accelerated Internship Program Guide published by the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).

- Excellent writing and presenting skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- High interest in infection prevention and control, epidemiology, public health, or related field.
Option 1: Completing an Online Internship Working at the Society Level
Students who are accepted to complete an internship Online at the society level will be responsible for:
- Assisting in planning and implementing infection prevention and control education and training opportunities.
- Gathering information and develop educational materials on infection prevention best practices.
- Responding to member feedback through writing, research, and presentations.
- Conducting research and literature review on current health-related topics.
- Assisting with development of activities to reach the FPIC strategic plan goals.
- Monitoring and analyze health related bills proposed in the Florida legislative session.
- Participating in committee meetings, monthly webinars, taking notes, communicating with FPIC members, data analysis, administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned.
- Designing a thorough final project related in infection control to meet credential requirements for their specific school.
Please note: This is a fully remote position with a minimum requirement of a one-semester commitment, 5-10 hours a week. This is an unpaid internship that offers practical work experience.
