Public Policy Updates

FPIC has a rich history of advocacy and participation in the development of landmark public policy including the following contributions. 

  • Testifying at Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) hearings for the adoption of the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
  • Working with the Florida Department of Health and Florida Hospital Association on state infection prevention regulations and guidelines culminating into the first state document to outline infection prevention programs in healthcare facilities, which is still in effect today.
  • Advocating that our state legislature to declare a yearly Infection Control Week and supported a move by APIC to adopt a similar resolution at the national level.
  • Serving on the state committee formed to create the framework for healthcare-associated infection reporting.
  • Representation on the Florida Department of Health HAI Advisory Board.
