Advocacy Alert - Message Regarding Announcement on Vaccine Mandates

On Wednesday Governor Desantis and Surgeon General Surgeon Joseph Ladapo announced that Florida will work to phase out all childhood vaccine mandates in the state, becoming the first state in the country to do so.  This plan will likely require action by the Florida Legislature. 

The position of our society is that vaccines have a long track-record of being safe, effective and the best way to prevent certain diseases.  In 2023 our society provided important information and stakeholder leadership in response to the legislative debates regarding vaccine mandates, and we are once again prepared to continue our mission to promote scientifically based infection control and epidemiological principles and practices through public policy advocacy. 

Our Public Policy Committee is finalizing a position statement in response to this latest announcement, and we are working on a plan to collaborate with local APIC Chapters to provide an appropriate state level response including a coordinated information campaign to legislators across the state.
