Advocacy Alert - Legislative Special Session Next Week

Apr. 23, 2026

The Florida Legislature is going to reconsider a proposal to expand vaccine exemptions for school children just as the state is battling a measles outbreak with 145 cases so far, the fourth-highest number in the nation. Gov. Ron DeSantis, added it to the agenda for the special session that starts next Tuesday.

The proposal to be considered next week is expected to be similar or identical to the original bill, SB 1756, which passed in the Senate during the regular session but was not taken up in the House.

FPIC staff and members of our Public Policy Committee will again reach out to members of the legislature to share the position of our society on this proposed bill (click here) and we encourage all members of our profession to use the information below to contact your local Representative and Senator and to share with them your perspective on how this proposed legislation might impact the public health and safety of our state.
